The Oak...an art gallery is open daily
from 10am - 4pm or by appointment 207-985-3331
The gallery sits in a quiet country setting
affording the visitor an atmosphere to relax and
spend time enjoying the surroundings as well as the
artwork inside the gallery.
It was formerly the cow barn on the Welch family
farm which the artist and her husband purchased in 1999. Tina is
the grand-daughter of Raymond and Mary Welch, who
settled the land in the early 1920's.
It has remained untouched for many years, as the new
residents work hard planting flower gardens and
transforming the rolling pastures into manicured
lawns, creating special places to walk and ‘sit for
a spell.
One huge oak tree stands alone at the top of the
hill (left there in the 20's for shade for the cows)
for which the gallery is named. A special place in
Maine to visit that is well worth the trip.
The artist, Tina (Welch) Ambrose is a Maine
native, born in Kennebunk, spent much of her
childhood on the family
farm. Her artwork, that
adorns the walls of the gallery, is of Maine
landscapes and seascapes.
It reflects her personal
interpretation of the beauty that
Maine has to offer in all seasons.
From the beauty
of the greens of a fresh spring, to the long lazy
days of summer, the crisp reds and golds of autumn,
to the white snappy air of winter; it’s all there, a
colorful array of artwork created in soft pastels.
Close by the gallery is the newest addition, the
studio.
The artist is sometimes working at her
latest creation and welcomes visitors to watch and
ask questions on her techniques. Or you may find her
working in one of the flower gardens, but rest
assured, she is willing to talk about her work and
the Maine she knows best. |
